Leading Australian Manufacturer of SIPs

Structural Insulated Panels

The Product

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)

SIPs are a building product that combines the strength of fibre cement with the outstanding thermal and fire retardant qualities of polyurethane foam. The noise reduction capability makes SIPs ideal to reduce traffic noise, the neighbour’s lawn mower and for our rural customers, the crow of the roosters.

SIPs innate strength and load bearing capabilities makes them ideal for minimal frame building methods in a wide range of structures including quality homes, insulated stockfeed sheds, garages, classrooms, clinics and granny flats or, as we like to refer to them as, mini homes.

The building system we use stands out above the rest for is quality, effectiveness and cost savings and is protected by worldwide patent.

Benefits of SIPs

  • Australian manufactured and readily available.
  • The cost of SIPs compares favourably to traditional building materials.
  • An average 3 bedroom home can be constructed to lock up stage in 12 days representing real savings on labour costs.
  • Structurally sound system meaning homes can be constructed in C4 cyclone zones.
  • The high quality polyurethane in our SIPs is fire retardant making SIPs ideally suited to building in the Australian bush. We do not use polystyrene.
  • Termite resistant means savings on expensive barriers and peace of mind.
  • High thermal resistance ratings means we easily exceed minimum energy efficiency requirements. But as our customers know, this equates to being cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter and considerable savings on their annual energy bills.
  • SIPs can be used for buildings up to 2 storeys high.
  • Once the wall panels are installed, there is no need for any additional plasterboard on walls, just choose your colour and paint it.
  • Roofing can be manufactured using a wide range of colours from the Colorbond range.

Our Objectives

The objective of Arafura Building Systems is to provide innovative construction materials and processes that will facilitate access to high quality, quickly constructed, energy efficient, climatically resistant and affordable housing. Our target market includes high needs groups currently not well served by the traditional housing market including individuals and families in regional and remote areas where construction costs and restricted building seasons present significant challenges. Our systems are also highly relevant in the context of urgent housing needs in aftermath of natural disasters.

While the company is a for-profit organisation it also aims to provide employment opportunities and skill development for groups often disadvantaged in the labour market including Indigenous Australians, people living with a disability and women.
